Bhumjaithai Party Surpasses People’s Party in Election Race, Says Political Analyst

Bangkok: Assoc. Prof. Sukhum Nuansakul, a former Rector of Ramkhamhaeng University, has analyzed the current political landscape, indicating a significant shift in party standings as the election approaches.

According to Thai News Agency, the Bhumjaithai Party has overtaken the People's Party, moving up to the number one position in the electoral race. This development comes as the Bhumjaithai Party is projected to secure approximately 130-140 seats, narrowly surpassing the People's Party, which is expected to follow closely with only a few dozen fewer MPs.

Assoc. Prof. Sukhum highlighted that, despite various opinion polls suggesting a tight contest among the three major parties, the Bhumjaithai Party has emerged as the frontrunner due to its ability to effectively communicate the government's achievements over the past three months in areas such as security, foreign affairs, and the economy. The People's Party, while bringing back Pita Limjaroenrat and focusing on key issues like the Social Security Fund, has struggled to regain its previous popularity levels, partly due to opposition attacks and limited voter base expansion.

While the Pheu Thai Party remains in third place with over 100 seats, Assoc. Prof. Sukhum noted an improvement in its popularity, particularly with its prime ministerial candidate, Mr. Chain Yoschanan, gaining positive feedback. However, the party faces challenges in competing for the top two positions due to internal conflicts and the loss of strong local politicians.

Assoc. Prof. Sukhum advises the Bhumjaithai Party to maintain its focus on security issues and intensify grassroots efforts in the final stages of the campaign. Meanwhile, the People's Party is urged not to underestimate the competition, as there is still time for strategic campaigns to influence the election outcome.
