Bhumtham Explains Troop Withdrawal to Reduce Confrontation at Ta Muen Thom

Surin: ‘Phumtham’ explains the order to withdraw the ‘Ta Muen Thom’ forces in the hope of reducing the confrontation. ‘Phumtham’ explains the reason for ordering the withdrawal of ‘Prasat Ta Muen Thom’ troops back to using MOU43 as just reducing confrontation, fearing war in the future, confirming that sovereignty will still be maintained in all areas, pointing out that war is not beneficial to anyone.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, gave an interview to the press about the Prasat Ta Muen Thom case in Surin Province. He stated that the previous day, he had already given an interview confirming that the situation would follow MOU 43, emphasizing that Thailand’s position should remain unchanged. He explained that the encroachment would be blocked and pushed back, and efforts would be made to have both sides retreat from potential confrontation.

Phumtham elaborated on his concerns about the proximity of troops from both sides, noting the unpredictability of soldier actions which could lead to dissatisfaction and escalate into violence or war. He stressed the importance of retreating from confrontation points as a precautionary measure, not to concede territory, but to prevent direct conflict. He emphasized the importance of consuming media mindfully and focusing on the duty to protect sovereignty without resorting to violence. The goal is to remove conditions that could lead to conflict, as war would not benefit anyone.

He reiterated the commitment to maintain sovereignty in all areas, even with reduced military forces. The reduction of forces must be strategic and effective, ensuring the protection of sovereignty. Phumtham mentioned the need to streamline forces and incorporate technology as a substitute for traditional military presence, expressing confidence that these measures would address the issue effectively.
