Pathum thani: Pol. Lt. Gen. Khamronwit Thupkrachang, President of the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organization, has proposed amending the law to reduce taxes at fuel dispensers. The proposal includes using the revenue to support gas stations and piloting a 5 satang reduction in fuel prices, with changes expected to take effect on April 9.
According to Thai News Agency, the proposal was discussed in a meeting with representatives from 317 gas station operators in the Pathum Thani province. Lt. Gen. Thupkrachang highlighted that the Provincial Administrative Organization currently earns 4 million baht monthly from fuel dispensing taxes. The proposed reallocation of these funds aims to subsidize gas stations and ultimately lower fuel prices, which he identified as a priority policy to benefit farmers, entrepreneurs, and vendors in the region.
Local authorities possess the power to reduce fuel taxes at gas stations. The proposal is scheduled for submission to the Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) council on April 8 for law amendments and approval. Upon approval, it is anticipated that fuel prices in Pathum Thani will decrease by 5 satang per liter starting April 9. As the secretary of the Association of Provincial Administrative Organizations of Thailand, Lt. Gen. Thupkrachang plans to suggest that the association president convene a meeting with presidents from all 76 provinces. Provinces ready to implement the changes can announce the adjustments immediately.
