Blood Donation Initiative to Honor Supreme Patriarch’s 99th Birthday

Bangkok: A great act of compassion and merit is being organized by the National Blood Centre of the Thai Red Cross Society to celebrate the 99th birthday of His Holiness Somdej Phra Ariyavongsakhatayan, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand. The initiative invites Buddhist monks and Thai citizens nationwide to participate in a blood donation campaign from June 26-28, 2026, to honor this auspicious occasion. Donations can be made at the National Blood Centre, seven fixed blood donation stations, twelve regional blood service centers, and various hospital branches throughout the country.

According to Thai News Agency, Associate Professor Dr. Dujchai Chaiwanichsiri, Director of the National Blood Centre, emphasized the significance of this event in honoring the Supreme Patriarch. The project, titled "Great Compassion and Merit: United Blood Donation in Honor of His Holiness," aims to encourage acts of merit by saving patients' lives through blood donations. The initiative extends invitations to government agencies, private organizations, temples, and educational institutions to participate in this noble cause, following the wishes of the Supreme Patriarch.

The event also honors Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavadi and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Organized during the mourning period, these celebratory activities aim to express gratitude for His Holiness's kindness and promote selfless blood donation, resulting in a sufficient blood supply for hospitals nationwide.

His Holiness Somdej Phra Ariyavongsakhatayan, born on June 26, 1927, in Ratchaburi Province, was bestowed the title of Supreme Patriarch on February 12, 2017, by His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn. Known for his honesty, decisiveness, and simplicity, His Holiness is revered for his compassion and dedication to religious work, serving as a model for Buddhists.

The National Blood Centre and its associated locations are prepared to accommodate donors, with seven fixed stations and twelve regional centers ready for participation. The campaign also includes an opportunity for well-wishing signings for His Majesty the King at the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society, Henri Dunant Street.
