Bangkok: The body of a Thai migrant worker killed in the Middle East conflict was repatriated to Thailand on Friday, as officials pledged to expedite compensation for his family.
According to Thai News Agency, Chaiwat, 33, a farm worker from Chaiyaphum province, was killed in an explosion on March 18. His remains arrived at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport on flight LY093 at 12:45 p.m., where officials from the Thai foreign and labor ministries, alongside Israeli embassy representatives, held a brief memorial service.
Pichet Thongpan, Thailand's deputy permanent secretary for labor, said the government is coordinating with Israeli authorities to secure compensation for the family. In Israel, the National Insurance Institute is reviewing the case, while outstanding wages and severance pay are estimated at around 300,000 baht ($9,100).
In Thailand, the family will receive 40,000 baht from the government's overseas employment fund and over 71,000 baht in social security benefits. Provincial labor authorities have been dispatched to assist the family with documentation and administrative procedures.
The Thai Labor Ministry continues to monitor the safety of its citizens in the region. To date, 1,479 Thais have requested evacuation assistance, with 98 having successfully returned home. Authorities have urged remaining Thai workers in high-risk areas to strictly comply with local safety protocols.
