El alto: A Bolivian Air Force Hercules transport plane crashed on a busy street in El Alto, near La Paz, while transporting new banknotes from the central bank, resulting in the death of 15 people and injuring at least 30 others amid severe weather conditions.
According to Thai News Agency, the military aircraft had originated from Santa Cruz and skidded off the runway after landing before crashing into a nearby road. The incident led to chaos at the crash site, with images on social media showing large crowds gathering to collect scattered banknotes. Authorities had to use water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd and secure the area.
The national airline, Aviaci¡n, announced the temporary closure of El Alto International Airport due to the accident, emphasizing that the aircraft involved was not part of a commercial fleet. Local media footage depicted extensive damage to both the aircraft and numerous vehicles on the road where the crash took place.
