Border Patrol Officers Seize 4.3 Million Methamphetamine Pills in High-Speed Chase

Mae fah luang: Border Patrol officers chased down a drug trafficking gang and seized 4.3 million methamphetamine pills. Border Patrol Police chased a pickup truck belonging to a drug trafficking gang, which crashed off the road near the border in Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province. They seized 4.3 million methamphetamine pills, while the driver and his accomplices fired shots to escape.

According to Thai News Agency, Border Patrol Police Region 3, along with soldiers from the Pha Muang Task Force and local administrative officials from Mae Fa Luang District, inspected a silver pickup truck with Chiang Rai license plates that had overturned in a field near Ban Lao Sip, Mae Salong Nok Subdistrict, Mae Fa Luang District, Chiang Rai Province. Inside the truck, they found 20 modified sacks, each containing 200,000 methamphetamine pills, for a total of approximately 4,300,000 pills.

The incident occurred this morning after authorities received a tip about a drug trafficking ring operating in Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province, smuggling narcotics into the interior of the country. Following the tip, officers deployed to monitor the situation until they spotted a suspicious pickup truck driving at unusually high speeds near a three-way intersection. When officers identified themselves and requested a search, the vehicle sped away.

A pursuit ensued to Ban Lao Sip, Mae Salong Nok Subdistrict, where the road leading to rice fields was narrow and bumpy. The vehicle swerved off the road, and the driver and passenger fired six shots at the officers to clear a path for escape before using their knowledge of the terrain to flee into the forest. Initially, the seized methamphetamine was handed over to the investigating officers at Mae Fah Luang Police Station, and efforts are underway to track down the escapees for prosecution.
