Boy Jetnipat Ignites Youth Interest in Thai Khon with New Series

Bangkok: Boy Jetnipat Sasingh, the creative mind behind Wayuphat Productions, has embarked on a mission to rejuvenate the ancient art of Khon, a traditional Thai masked dance-drama, by initiating the filming of "Jong Dang - The Urban Khon" through a sacred blessing ceremony. The event took place at 9:09 AM at the Ganesha shrine in front of the College of Dramatic Arts, Salaya, marking a pivotal moment for the Thai entertainment industry in its quest to connect valuable cultural heritage with the younger generation.

According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony was graced by notable figures in the performing arts, including Professor Nopparat Supakarn Wangnaitham, a National Artist in Performing Arts (Dance Drama) for 2022, and Pattarakrit Pumpipatt (Kru Tae), Assistant Rector of the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute. The presence of these luminaries, alongside Maitho Mingmongkol Wangnaitham and the cast, underscored the significance of this cultural endeavor. The event began with auspicious tunes from a traditional Thai orchestra, followed by sacrificial offerings by a Brahmin priest. The atmosphere was further enriched by a ceremonial dance for good fortune and a mesmerizing Khon performance by the lead actors adorned in traditional costumes representing heroes, heroines, giants, and monkeys.

The series "Jong Dang - The Urban Khon" promises to offer a unique blend of traditional Thai dance with modern pop culture elements, including K-POP-inspired dance and music. The series features a lineup of talented actors such as Tai Saitharn, Tum Prasit, and others, who are set to deliver a captivating narrative that resonates with contemporary audiences while preserving the timeless essence of Khon.
