London: The Royal Mint has introduced a special £2 coin in tribute to Freddie Mercury, the renowned British singer, songwriter, and producer who gained fame as the lead singer of the rock band Queen.

According to Thai News Agency, the coin features an iconic depiction of Mercury from Queen’s 1986 Wembley Stadium concert, capturing him in a memorable pose where he leans back, gazes upward, and extends his arms. Alongside his portrait is Mercury’s signature, with intricate details such as a yellow military-style jacket and white trousers with red stripes included in the design.

The release of this commemorative coin coincides with significant anniversaries for Queen and Mercury. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Queen’s historic 1985 Live Aid performance and the release of their celebrated album “A Night at the Opera,” which features the enduring classic “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Additionally, 2025 will commemorate forty years since the launch of Mercury’s debut solo album, “Mr. Bad Guy.” The coin is part of the Royal Mint’s Music Legends series, joining previous tributes to musical icons such as David Bowie, Elton John, and George Michael.
