British Man Faces Deportation After Assaulting Tuk-Tuk Driver in Thailand

Phuket: A 33-year-old British man went on a rampage, punching a tuk-tuk driver, leaving him knocked down and requiring eight stitches, after an argument over an unpaid 300 baht fare. Police have arrested him, revoked his visa, and are deporting him.

According to Thai News Agency, the video shows a foreign man knocking a tuk-tuk driver's cell phone to the ground before punching him once, causing the driver to fall. The foreign man then walks away. The events leading up to this involved three foreign tourists (one man and two women) who hailed a tuk-tuk from Soi Bangla to Soi Na Nai. Upon arrival, the driver claimed the passengers refused to pay the 300 baht fare. At the same time, one of the foreign men was about to hail an orange pickup truck to pick up the two women.

While the tuk-tuk driver was trying to collect the fare, the foreign man snatched his mobile phone and physically assaulted him, causing injuries requiring 8 stitches. The victim, identified as Mr. Chalong, 48, filed a police report on the morning of July 2nd. The incident occurred around 5 AM that same day.

Police have arrested the perpetrator, 33-year-old Shane Daniel, a British national with legal residency in the Kingdom. He is being prosecuted for assault causing physical or mental harm. His visa has been revoked, and he has been taken to Patong Police Station, where he will be transferred to an immigration detention center for further legal proceedings and subsequent deportation.
