Brutal Taxi Driver Arrested for Stabbing Hotel Maid to Death

Kanthararom: Police have arrested a brutal taxi driver who stabbed a hotel maid more than 50 times with a knife, resulting in her death. During questioning, his statements were incoherent.

According to Thai News Agency, Kanthararom Police Station in Sisaket Province intercepted a green-yellow taxi with Bangkok license plates. The driver, identified as Mr. Natthaphas, age 47, was accused of the brutal attack on the hotel maid in Amnat Charoen Province. After committing the crime, he fled in his taxi. The Amnat Charoen Provincial Police tracked the taxi’s GPS, determining that it was moving through Sisaket Province and was currently in the Kanthararom District, prompting a coordinated effort to intercept the vehicle.

In the afternoon, officers spotted the taxi and stopped it in front of a gas station in Kanthararom District. Mr. Natthaphas was taken in for questioning at Kanthararom Police Station, where they also discovered a knife believed to be the weapon used in the attack.

CCTV footage from the hotel captured the tragic incident. Ms. Suwanee, 61, the hotel’s housekeeper, was seen entering a room to ensure everything was in order. Shortly after, Mr. Natthaphas entered with a backpack containing the knife and proceeded to stab Ms. Suwanee over 50 times. A coworker, alerted by the commotion, witnessed the perpetrator exiting the room with the knife before fleeing in a taxi. Tragically, Ms. Suwanee succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.

Mr. Natthaphas had previously stayed at the hotel without incident during the New Year period but returned on April 19th under suspicious circumstances. Upon checking out, the maid found his room unusually messy. He later returned, leading to the fatal encounter with the maid.

A housekeeper who witnessed the incident described Mr. Natthaphas as a quiet individual who mostly kept to himself. The deceased’s aunt confirmed there had been no prior disputes with Mr. Natthaphas.

Pol. Col. Thatchapong Phromma, Superintendent of Kanthararom Police Station, stated that initial questioning of Mr. Natthaphas revealed incoherent statements, as though he was not fully conscious. He is currently detained, awaiting transfer to Amnat Charoen Police Station for further investigation.
