Building Collapse Victims Rise to 109 with 14 Still Missing in Bangkok

Bangkok: The Command Center for the Office of the Auditor General’s Building Collapse has announced an increase in the number of victims to 109, with 14 individuals still unaccounted for. Authorities are determined to locate all missing persons by the end of the month.

According to Thai News Agency, the update was provided during a press conference held at the Joint Command Center, JJ Mall, Chatuchak District. Assoc. Prof. Thawida Kamolvech, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, along with Pol. Col. Wanphen Duangpan, Director of the Forensic Science Division, Royal Thai Police, disclosed the figures related to the collapse of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) building, which fell due to an earthquake on March 28.

Relatives of the victims have been reporting missing persons at Bang Sue Police Station, initially accounting for 103 victims. The recent addition of reports from more relatives has increased the number of victims and those missing. Investigators from Bang Sue Police Station and the Police Forensic Science Division have confirmed 6 individuals.

The Joint Command Center has officially stated that as of May 4, 2025, at 12:00 noon, the number of victims stands at 109, comprising 86 deaths, 9 injuries, and 14 people yet to be found. DNA samples are being collected from 100 direct relatives to assist in identifying the deceased and missing persons.

The Institute of Forensic Medicine has confirmed 86 deceased individuals, of which 78 were complete bodies and 8 were identified through matching body parts. Among the identified deceased, 63 have been recognized: 46 were Thai, 15 Burmese, 1 Cambodian, and 1 Laotian.

The Deputy Governor of Bangkok assured that once the search team is reorganized, efforts will focus on clearing the wreckage of the Office of the Auditor General’s building to locate any remaining bodies or body parts. There are still 280 body parts awaiting examination, with an expectation to conclude all procedures by the month’s end.

A meeting by the Joint Command Center will be held to discuss case progress at the collapse site. The media will not be allowed inside during this meeting.
