Bus Terminal Authority Offers Free Shuttle Service to Ease Post-New Year Travel Congestion

Bangkok: The Bus Terminal Authority (BTA) is gearing up to assist travelers returning from New Year celebrations by offering a free shuttle bus service between "Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal - BTS Mo Chit - Bangkok Central Station" on January 4-5, 2026. This initiative aims to ease passenger congestion and streamline connections among major transportation hubs.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthawit Rakchamroon, Managing Director of Transport Co., Ltd. (BKS), anticipates that approximately 100,000 people will be traveling back home each day from January 3-5, 2026, following New Year celebrations. An estimated 5,000 bus trips per day, including both BKS and partner buses, are expected to accommodate the influx of passengers.

The BTA has arranged for four shuttle buses to provide complimentary service along the route from Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal to BTS Mo Chit and Bangkok Central Station (Gate 2). Operating from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM on January 4-5, 2026, these buses will pick up and drop off passengers at the flagpole in front of Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, ensuring smooth passenger flow and facilitating transfers to key transportation hubs.

In addition to this service, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) is offering bus services at Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, connecting passengers to different areas across 15 routes. Taxis are also available to aid in travel.

The BTA has instructed station managers across the nation to prepare buses and personnel at provincial bus terminals to ensure a safe and efficient return journey to Bangkok for travelers.

Reflecting on bus service data from January 2, 2026, 67,667 passengers returned to Bangkok, while 50,262 passengers departed, totaling 117,929 passengers. The day saw 7,206 return trips and 3,486 outbound trips using both government-owned and private buses, with no reports of stranded passengers.
