Bangkok: The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has announced a relaxation of restrictions on drone flights in the Thai-Cambodian border area, although specific measures remain in place for regions deemed high-risk due to security concerns.
According to Thai News Agency, CAAT's Announcement No. 16, B.E. 2569 (2026), addresses the operation or release of unmanned aircraft, notably drones, in areas potentially impacting national security amidst the Thai-Cambodian border situation. This adjustment follows ongoing evaluations with security agencies, reflecting a general easing in the border's security situation.
Monitoring by authorities indicates a trend towards stabilization, prompting CAAT to revise its regulatory framework. This change allows citizens, businesses, and agencies to resume near-normal drone activities, while retaining security protocols in sensitive regions potentially impacted by the border dynamics.
Per the updated regulations, registered and legally licensed drone operators are permitted to conduct flights across Thailand, with exceptions for certain districts in seven southern border provinces. These areas continue to have flight restrictions due to national security, public order, and safety considerations.
Restricted districts include:
- Ubon Ratchathani Province: Khemarat, Natal, Pho Thrai, Si Mueang Mai, Khong Chiam, Sirindhorn, Buntharik, Na Chaluai, and Nam Yuen.
- Sisaket Province: Phu Sing, Khun Han, and Kantharalak.
- Surin Province: Phanom Dong Rak, Kap Choeng, Sangkha, and Buachet.
- Buriram Province: Lahan Sai and Ban Kruat.
- Sa Kaeo Province: Khlong Hat, Aranyaprathet, Khok Sung, and Ta Phraya.
- Chanthaburi Province: Mueang Chanthaburi, Soi Dao, and Pong Nam Ron.
- Trat Province: Mueang Trat, Khlong Yai, and Bo Rai.
