Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved a budget of 455,962,200 baht for hosting the 33rd SEA Games and the 13th ASEAN Para Games in 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Government Spokesperson, announced that the Cabinet meeting approved the allocation of funds from the 2026 fiscal year budget, central budget, and emergency reserve funds upon the proposal of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
The budget includes 166,282,000 baht for the opening and closing ceremonies and the lighting of the sacred fire. This encompasses 147,953,000 baht for organizing these ceremonies and 14,683,500 baht for torch relay celebration activities. Additionally, operating and travel expenses for officials involved in these events are set at 3,645,500 baht.
A further 30,000,000 baht has been allocated for public relations and the operation of the Broadcasting Center (IBC). The provision for accommodation, food, transportation, and laundry for athletes and officials totals 259,680,200 baht. The Sports Authority of Thailand will manage revenue generation and seek support from private and state enterprises to ensure efficient budget allocation. They will also establish mechanisms for effective project management and develop a comprehensive risk management plan to address any potential security or safety impacts.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, along with related agencies, is advised to formulate plans and strategies to enhance economic, social, and knowledge-based outcomes from the games. Once these objectives are met, the Sports Authority of Thailand should report the budget expenditures to the Budget Bureau.
The anticipated benefits include enhancing Thailand’s image in the ASEAN community through live broadcasts and promoting confidence among tourists and investors in the country’s potential. The event aims to showcase leadership in tourism and sports industries and boost the country’s reputation in organizing major competitions. Additionally, it seeks to inspire Thai athletes and youth, fostering pride and participation in national sports events.
