Bangkok: Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, announced that the Cabinet has approved the classification of air purifiers and vacuum cleaners as controlled products starting in 2025. This decision aims to ensure an adequate supply of these essential products to address public health concerns related to PM 2.5 dust particles.
According to Thai News Agency, the Cabinet’s resolution includes enforcing management measures to prevent unfair practices and ensure consumer protection. The control measures will specifically target air purifiers equipped with HEPA filters and ionizers for spaces up to 80 square meters, as well as various models of electric vacuum cleaners. These measures require importers, manufacturers, and distributors to report monthly on the quantity, price, and product details.
The newly controlled goods will fall under the consumer goods category, increasing the total number of controlled goods and services to 59. Regulatory measures will enforce fairness in pricing and availability, with penalties for violations including imprisonment or fines.
Consumers can report concerns to the Department of Internal Trade, ensuring compliance and addressing any unfair practices. Legal action will be taken against those who violate the regulations.
