Cabinet approves extension of Emergency Decree in 3 Southern Border Provinces for another 3 months

Government House, The Cabinet has resolved to extend the declaration of a state of emergency in the three southern border provinces, except for some districts, for another three months until October 19, 2024, and acknowledged two draft announcements. Mr. Chai Wachirong, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Cabinet meeting (July 9, 2024) resolved to approve and acknowledge the proposals of the National Security Council (NSC) as follows: Agreed to extend the period of declaration of a state of serious emergency in the area. Narathiwat Province, except Yi-ngo District, Su-ngai Kolok District, Waeng District and Sukhirin District Pattani Province, except Yaring District, Panare District, Mayo District, Mai Kaen District, Thung Yang Daeng District, Kapho District and Mae Lan District Yala Province, except Betong District, Raman District, Kabang District and Krong Pinang District Extended for another 3 months from July 20, 2024 to October 19, 2024, which is the 77th extension, along w ith 2 draft announcements: (1) Draft announcement on the extension of the period of the declaration of a serious state of emergency in the area of ??Narathiwat Province, except for Yi-ngo, Su-ngai Kolok, Waeng and Sukhirin districts; Pattani Province, except for Yaring, Panare, Mayo, Mai Kaen, Thung Yang Daeng, Kapho and Mae Lan districts; and Yala Province, except for Betong, Raman, Kabang and Krong Pinang districts. (2) Draft announcement regarding the announcements issued by the Cabinet in accordance with the announcement of a serious emergency situation to remain in effect. and there was a resolution to acknowledge the draft announcement regarding the announcement and orders that the Prime Minister has determined according to the announcement of a serious emergency situation that is still in effect. The Prime Minister's Office spokesman said that the NSC reported that the ISOC Region 4 Forward Command had summarized the results of its operations to be used in considering the extension of the 77th emer gency decree. The situation of violent incidents in the three southern border provinces (SBPP) from 20 April 2024 to 13 June 2024, there were 10 violent incidents. Security forces in the area assessed the situation that the violent incidents have decreased compared to the previous period. Measures to reduce the impact of the Emergency Decree on Public Administration B.E. 2548 (2005) are divided into two approaches: creating transparency in operations and creating transparency in arrests and detention. The evaluation found that the majority did not want to cancel the announcement of the Emergency Decree, accounting for 66.20 percent. In the 3/2024 Emergency Services Committee meeting on 25 June 2024, it was seen that the extension of the declaration of a serious emergency situation in the southern border provinces is an important tool for officials to prevent, suppress, and contain serious emergency situations that occur in the area in order to ensure the safety of the people in life and property. This is to ensure continuity in operations. Therefore, it was resolved to propose to the Cabinet to consider extending the period of the declaration of a serious state of emergency in all districts in the southern border provinces, except Yi-ngo, Su-ngai Kolok, Waeng and Sukhirin districts in Narathiwat Province, Yaring, Panare, Mayo, Mai Kaen, Thung Yang Daeng, Kapho and Mae Lan districts in Pattani Province, Betong, Raman, Kabang and Krong Pinang districts in Yala Province for another 3 months, from July 20, 2024 to October 19, 2024, which is the 77th extension.
