Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved extending the work permits for workers from three nationalities: Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam, until March 31, 2026. The decision affects over 370,000 foreign workers and is aimed at addressing concerns about the potential economic impact on their respective countries.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Treenuch Thianthong, Minister of Labour, announced that the Cabinet meeting had agreed to extend the validity of work permits, which were originally set to expire on February 24, 2026. This measure is intended to prevent these workers from becoming illegal immigrants and to mitigate any negative repercussions on the country's businesses and labor sector, particularly regarding economic growth.
Additionally, Ms. Treenuch disclosed that the Cabinet has extended the deadline for issuing passports or equivalent documents and visas from June 24, 2026, to July 31, 2026. Workers will receive this extension following the announcements from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labour.
Employers and business owners with workers from these nationalities are encouraged to stay informed through the Ministry of Labour website at www.mol.go.th and the Department of Employment website at www.doe.go.th. They can also contact the Ministry of Labour hotline at 1506, selecting option 2 for the Department of Employment.
