Cabinet Approves Mourning Protocols Following Passing of Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother

Bangkok: The Cabinet has given its approval to an announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office concerning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. This decision marks the start of a national period of mourning following the announcement by the Bureau of the Royal Household regarding her passing on October 24, 2025.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ayrin Phanrit, Deputy Government Spokesperson, shared that the government has requested all government offices, state enterprises, government agencies, and educational institutions to lower their flags to half-mast for 30 days, commencing October 25, 2025. Additionally, civil servants, state enterprise employees, and government officials are to observe a one-year mourning period. The general public is encouraged to participate in mourning appropriately.

Entertainment venues and service establishments are asked to reduce or refrain from entertainment activities for 30 days. The royal funeral ceremonies will follow established royal traditions, with the public invited to pay respects on October 26, 2025, at the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion, Grand Palace.

A committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, will organize the royal funeral. Various departments, including the Royal Ceremony Administration Department and others, will participate in the preparations. The Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture will oversee the design and construction of the Royal Crematorium.

The Cabinet Secretariat will arrange for the Cabinet to attend the Royal Ceremony and chant the Abhidhamma daily. The Ministry of Interior and Bangkok will organize public merit-making events, and the Public Relations Department will disseminate information about the Queen Mother’s royal duties, coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for English translations.
