Bangkok: The Cabinet has clarified its stance on the organization of entertainment activities by the private sector during the national mourning period, stating that there is no prohibition but rather a request for consideration of format adjustments.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Traisulee Traisaranakul, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, dispelled circulating rumors about a special Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul. The meeting, held on October 25, 2025, did not resolve to halt private sector entertainment for 30 days as previously reported.
The meeting’s primary focus was on the Bureau of the Royal Household’s announcement regarding the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. In response, the Cabinet mandated a one-year mourning period for government personnel and a 30-day flag-lowering protocol for all government-related offices starting October 25, 2025.
The Prime Minister made a statement requesting public and private sector cooperation in adjusting activities to reflect the somber atmosphere, without imposing any specific orders to cease activities.
Ms. Traisulee emphasized that the entertainment, tourism, and service industries should use discretion to suitably adjust their activities in honor of Her Majesty the Queen Mother. The government’s request aims to show respect and gratitude, rather than restrict economic or social activities.
Highlighting the importance of unity, Ms. Traisulee urged citizens to rely on official government communications to avoid misinformation. The Prime Minister’s objective is for all Thais to genuinely express their condolences.
In closing, Ms. Traisulee invited Thai citizens to join in mourning the Queen Mother, offering prayers for her peaceful rest and continued protection and prosperity for the Thai people under her royal patronage.
