Cabinet Declares February 17th a Public Holiday in Songkhla

Songkhla: The Cabinet has officially declared February 17th as a public holiday in Songkhla Province in observance of Chinese New Year. This decision aligns with a previous Cabinet resolution and an announcement from the Prime Minister's Office. According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, shared that the decision is based on the Cabinet resolution dated August 13, 2013, and the Prime Minister's Office Announcement No. 21 from August 16, 2013. The announcement officially designates Chinese New Year as a public holiday within Songkhla Province. The Deputy Spokesperson further explained that Chinese New Year in 2026 will fall on Tuesday, February 17, and will be observed as a public holiday. This will affect all government agencies, state educational institutions, and higher education institutions within the province, adhering to the Cabinet resolution and the Prime Minister's Office announcement. The recognition of Chinese New Year as a public holiday reflects the multicultural environment of Songkhla, which also observes other significant religious holidays like Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
