Cabinet Declares State of Emergency in Songkhla Province

Bangkok: The Cabinet has resolved to declare a state of emergency in Songkhla Province, appointing the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces as the local commander. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul revealed after a cabinet meeting that a state of emergency had been declared in Songkhla Province. He has assigned the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to assume command of the situation and integrate all assistance, including ordering, approving, and providing comprehensive protection.

According to Thai News Agency, initially, all agencies are fully mobilized to provide assistance to the people. There are no delays or obstacles. In practice, efforts are being made diligently to bring people out as quickly as possible. Authorities are working against the clock, and a spokesperson team will be established to provide updates on the situation.

Initially, orders were given to ministers to deploy to the area, particularly Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, to remain in the area. They were also informed of the crisis at three hospitals in Songkhla Province, but assured that they would be able to care for ICU patients.

Thanakorn Wangboonkhongchana, Minister of Industry, revealed that following the Cabinet’s decision to declare a state of emergency for the entire Songkhla province, the effort will facilitate swift relief efforts for the people. General Ukrit Boontanon, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, will preside over the area, with ministers serving as co-commanders. Further orders will be issued at a later date.

Ms. Supamas Isaraphakdee, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that she is ready to use state media, including Channel 9 and the MCOT network, to gather information and monitor the situation to provide warnings and coordinate with government agencies to assist the public.
