Bangkok: It is the duty of the Cabinet Secretary to provide clarification regarding the investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) into Settha and the Cabinet’s decision to transfer 35 billion baht for the 10,000 baht digital wallet project.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pakorn Nilpraphun, Secretary-General of the Council of State, explained the responsibility of the Cabinet Secretary in issuing a letter of explanation concerning the NACC’s investigation into Mr. Settha Thavisin during his tenure as Prime Minister. This investigation pertains to the Cabinet’s decision to allocate 35 billion baht for distributing 10,000 baht in cash. Mr. Pakorn emphasized that determining fault would rely on the specifics of each individual case.
Mr. Pakorn addressed several questions from reporters, including whether all attendees of the Cabinet meeting on the day of the resolution would be subject to investigation. He noted that he had not yet reviewed the report and would need to understand how the investigation was planned. Additionally, when questioned about Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who participated in the meeting as Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Mr. Pakorn stated he could not recall specific details.
Furthermore, Mr. Pakorn clarified that typically, the Cabinet Secretary-General would issue a clarification letter in response to a formal inquiry from the NACC. The decision to summon individuals for further clarification would be at the discretion of the NACC, following their established procedures. He also mentioned that the innocence of those present during the Cabinet resolution would be contingent on the facts and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
