Candidate Veerapat Kantha Calls for Vote Recount Amid Alleged Election Irregularities

Samut prakan: "Veerapat," a parliamentary candidate, has petitioned the Election Commission to recount the votes after discovering irregularities in the process. Weeraphat, a candidate for Member of Parliament in Samut Prakan's Constituency 6 from the People's Party, demanded a recount by the Election Commission after discovering several irregularities, including the dumping of election materials and voter registration lists in a landfill.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Veerapat Kantha, a candidate for Member of Parliament in Samut Prakan Constituency 6, submitted a petition to the Election Commission (EC) requesting an investigation into the discovery of election slips in a garbage pile in Samut Prakan province. He also challenged the election results and called for a recount, stating that he found several irregularities in the Samut Prakan Constituency 6 election. These included the alleged use of another person's nameplate at the polling station (a matter he has already filed with the Samut Prakan EC), the dumping of tally sheets in a closed municipal landfill, and the disposal of voter registration lists from Buriram province. He noted that an investigation into these incidents was conducted on February 14th. Therefore, he believes the EC should order a recount or a new election.

Mr. Veerapat also mentioned the Election Commission's (EC) trip to Switzerland last year for a study tour. He reported that the EC members there expressed concerns about the transparency of the referendum process, suggesting it was unlikely to be achievable in Thailand. He questioned whether the trip was truly productive, suggesting the EC members likely enjoyed their time on a scenic trip to Switzerland's mountaintops and lakeside towns more than focusing on transparent elections and referendums. He claims to have evidence and information that many members of the EC trip were more interested in sightseeing than actual study tours. He points out that if the purpose was genuine, the previous Samut Prakan Provincial Administrative Organization election, held on a Saturday, involved several questionable aspects of the process. He hopes the EC will heed his petition today and proceed with a recount as requested by the local residents.
