Bangkok: Police from Huamark Metropolitan Police Station received a report of a car accident with multiple fatalities and injuries at the entrance to Soi Ramkhamhaeng 83, Khlong Chan Subdistrict, Bang Kapi District, Bangkok. They went to investigate along with volunteers from the Siam Ruam Jai (Pu In) Foundation and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.
According to Thai News Agency, the accident occurred on a three-lane outbound road in the far right lane, which is open to the inbound express lane during rush hour. A white Isuzu D-Max pickup truck with Bangkok license plate 1602 was found overturned on its left side, blocking the road. The front end was severely damaged. Nearby, a red Mitsubishi Strada pickup truck with a high roof, Bangkok license plate 9021, was also overturned on its left side, with the front end also severely damaged. A short distance away, a red Honda Wave motorcycle with Bangkok license plate 4 4303 was found overturned and severely damaged. The driver, identified as 44-year-old Ms. Wasana, was deceased in the wreckage. A red Honda Scoopy motorcycle with Bangkok license plate 7 4508 was also found overturned. Ms. Athitaya, 26, was also injured. Seven other people were also injured. Volunteers from the Siam Ruam Jai (Pu In) Foundation transported them to Petcharavej Hospital.
The investigation revealed that 44-year-old Mr. Chokchai was driving a covered pickup truck from Lam Sali Intersection in the far-right expressway on the outbound side of Ramkhamhaeng Road. Upon reaching the scene, he lost control and veered into the second lane, which was headed towards Lam Sali Intersection, colliding with Ms. Wasana’s Honda Wave motorcycle and then head-on with Mr. Phan’s Mitsubishi Strada pickup truck, 64. The pickup then spun into Ms. Athitaya’s motorcycle, resulting in further injuries.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Santpakorn stated that the driver and two passengers of the pickup truck were injured and that no one has been questioned. He stated that the deceased was riding a motorcycle to open a shop near the Mistine intersection. A review of CCTV footage from the scene revealed a clear indication of who was at fault. He added that the driver of the covered pickup truck will be brought in for questioning and charged with reckless driving causing injury and death.
