Narathiwat: A car bomb detonated outside a police station in Thailand's southern province of Narathiwat, resulting in one officer being injured and causing extensive damage, according to authorities.

According to Thai News Agency, security camera footage captured a driver maneuvering a grey Mitsubishi Lancer with fake license plates toward the old Tanyong Police Station. The driver then exited the vehicle and escaped on a waiting motorcycle. The explosion, triggered remotely, utilized an improvised explosive device concealed within gas cylinders, weighing over 70 kilograms. The blast injured a police sergeant on duty and destroyed a nearby vehicle.

Investigators have traced the vehicle to an individual with two active arrest warrants from 2025 related to a shooting, a bombing, and a gold shop robbery in the region. Police have identified a suspect linked to the incident, although he managed to evade capture during a raid in Mueang Narathiwat district.

Regional police officials, along with the provincial governor, inspected the explosion site on Wednesday. Authorities suspect the attack was orchestrated by an insurgent group believed to be responsible for three previous bombings aimed at causing unrest in the area.
