Bangkok:The controversy stems from a CASIO watch inscribed with "Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister" and "Anutin Charnvirakul" on its dial. Images have circulated showing Captain Thamanat Promphao, leader of the Kla Tham Party, wearing this watch as a token of affection before joining the government. Reports indicate that Captain Thamanat received the watch on August 13, 2026, and was seen wearing it as early as August 24, 2026, while assisting with flood relief efforts in Nan province.

According to Thai News Agency, these watches were given exclusively to individuals closely associated with Mr. Anutin, including ministers from the Bhumjaithai Party and officials from the Ministry of Interior. Recipients included Mr. Polpeerap Suwannachawi, Mr. Jetseth Thaiseth, Mr. Worasit Liengprasit, Mr. Paradorn Prisnanantakul, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, and Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn.

Mr. Anutin, known for his interest in collecting watches, procured these CASIO watches during campaign visits and inspections of the "Thai Chuay Thai" project. He purchased his preferred models, engraved them with his name, and distributed them to his close associates. The watches, CASIO AE-1200WH (CASIO Royale) models, were bought for approximately 1,900 baht each. One such watch, currently worn by Captain Thamanat, was acquired by Mr. Anutin on April 4, 2026, during a price check at a Bang Kapi department store.
