Catching Cambodia’s Lies: “Timeline” of the December 7, 2015 Clash

Bangkok: Cambodia’s Ministry of Defence posted on Facebook a timeline of the clashes with Thailand on December 7, 2015, claiming that Thailand opened fire several times and Cambodia did not return fire even once.

According to Thai News Agency, as the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense posted a timeline of yesterday’s events in Cambodian, Fresh News website reported this timeline citing Lt. Gen. Malee Socheata, spokesman for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, as saying: From 2:15 p.m. to 2:32 p.m., the Thai army opened fire on Cambodian forces stationed in Chom Krasant District, Preah Vihear Province. Cambodia exercised utmost restraint and did not return fire, but the Thai army made baseless accusations against Cambodia.

Then at 8:02 p.m., the Thai army launched a second round of attacks. From 8:30 p.m. to 8:50 p.m., the Thai side launched another round of attacks, but Cambodia, as usual, did not return fire, fully respecting the existing agreement and the principle of peaceful conflict resolution under the framework of international law.

Kamusha’s statement completely contradicts the Royal Thai Army’s Facebook post on December 7, 2015, which stated that a clash occurred in the Phu Pha Lek/Phla Hin Paet Kon area of the Second Army Region, and provided the following timeline: At 2:15 PM, Unit 13, Infantry Regiment 1 (Special Task Force 1) clashed with the CPOC forces with small arms fire. One of our men was injured, Sgt. Anuchat Rueankam (6th Infantry Regiment, 6th Battalion).

At 2:16 PM, there was continuous firing at intervals. The opposing side began using anti-terrorist weapons. The Second Army Region Commander ordered the units to be fully prepared and to comply with the rules of engagement. At 2:50 PM, the clashes ended. Units continue to closely monitor the situation and maintain readiness.
