Centre for the destitute officials try to cover up their alleged wrongdoings

Some officials of the Yala Protection Centre for the Destitute have asked fund recipients to lie to investigators that they had received the full amount of the allowance from the centre despite the fact they were given only half of the amount, according to initial probe by the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC).

PACC officials were in Betong district of Yala province on Friday (March 9) to investigate the distribution of student fund 2,000 baht each to about 200 poor pupils by the Yala Protection Centre for the Destitute.

However, in reality, only 1,000 baht were handed out to each of the 200 pupils whereas the receipts showed that 2,000 baht for each pupil were given.

Some of the fund recipients told PACC officials that they were approached by officials from the centre to tell PACC officials that they were given the full amount of the allowance 2,000 baht each.

Besides the fund for poor pupils, PACC officials have also uncovered irregularities in the disbursement of about 10 million baht from 2017 fiscal year's budget for occupational promotion for about 500 the disabled and people infected with HIV.
