Chadchart Steps In to Oversee Factory Fire Containment Efforts in Lat Krabang

Bangkok: Governor Chadchart rushed to inspect the cause of the fire at a furniture factory in the Lat Krabang area, ordered the establishment of a forward command center, and expected to control the situation to be contained by noon today.

According to Thai News Agency, the fire at the KING furniture factory (Siam House and Home Company Limited) on Soi Chalong Krung 55, Lam Pla Thio Subdistrict, Lat Krabang District, Bangkok, began at 4:45 p.m. on May 11, 2015. In response, officials have mobilized fire engines and hundreds of rescue workers to control the situation. More than 14 hours have passed, and the situation is still being assessed periodically as fires continue to erupt from the basement area of the factory building structure. Nearby residents have been ordered to evacuate to prevent any possible accidents.

At 8:00 a.m. on May 12, 2025, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, along with a team of engineers specializing in industrial factory buildings, police, and rescue teams, inspected the progress of controlling the fire and the damage around the factory area. Firefighters reported that the fire began on the basement floor, but they were unable to descend due to high smoke and heat levels. Special equipment, tools, and oxygen masks are required for the task force to manage the situation effectively.

Mr. Chadchart revealed that he has assigned Dr. Surajit Pongsinghwitaya, the president of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, and Mr. Tharapong Petchkong, the director of the Lat Krabang District Office, to coordinate the incident and set up a command center at the scene. The operational strategy involves using foam mixed with water to spray into areas with persistent fires and high heat. It is anticipated that the situation will be controlled within a limited area by noon today.

In the factory area, it was confirmed that there were no stranded, injured, or deceased individuals as the incident occurred during a long holiday. The Lat Krabang District Office recently established an incident command center and a shelter center at Lamphong School, where residents from the Lam Pla Thio Canal community, the Wat Thipphawas community, the Thiw Phai Phatthana community, and several luxury villages have gathered. Their residences were affected by the heat and smoke. Governor Chadchart has ordered officials to ensure the well-being of the villagers and confirmed that the situation is expected to improve today.
