Chaichana Confirms Unity Within Democrat Party Amidst Political Debate

Bangkok: “Chaichana” believes that the Democrat Party will not split in support of Prime Minister Paethongtarn. Chaichana criticizes the opposition for its approach, alleging that the government has “Thaksin” while the opposition holds “Thanathorn” as a spiritual leader. He expresses confidence that the Democrat Party will remain united in its support for “PM Paethongtarn” but notes that a final decision will be made on the day of the vote.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaichana Dechacho, MP for Nakhon Si Thammarat and Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, assured that the party members would align their voices. However, he emphasized the importance of the upcoming party meeting on March 26 to determine their stance during the no-confidence debate. He indicated that the party has a tradition of being a coalition party and that today’s brief meeting sought to gather information about the debate.

Regarding the stance of the three senior members of the Democrat Party, Mr. Chaichana suggested directing questions to them directly as mutual respect is already established within the party.

In this censure debate, Mr. Chaichana shared his observations from the speech by Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, MP for the party list and leader of the Prachachon Party, who requested 28 hours for the debate. He noted that the public seeks factual information and criticized the debate for revisiting old issues. Mr. Chaichana emphasized the need for genuine critique of the government’s performance, encouraging the focus to remain on weaknesses, mistakes, or corruption within the government, rather than external figures.

Mr. Chaichana warned against the opposition’s approach, expressing concern over whether their questions were already known to the government and if the government could provide better responses, potentially damaging the opposition’s credibility. He remarked, ‘Don’t pee over your own legs. You’re the one who criticizes others. The government has Thaksin and the opposition has Thanathorn.’

He also commented on the debate led by General Prawit Wongsuwan, MP for the party list and leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, about the Entertainment Complex. Mr. Chaichana pointed out that this issue has been discussed by multiple governments and remains unresolved. He stated that the current government is focusing on addressing long-neglected economic problems.

When questioned about the Democrat Party’s stance on the Entertainment Complex, Mr. Chaichana clarified that no conclusion has been reached yet, and the matter awaits presentation to the parliament meeting for further discussion.
