Chiang Mai: Chaiwat Tulathan, former leader of the Move Forward Party, expressed acceptance of the defeat in the Nakhon Si Thammarat Constituency 8 by-election following the Kla Tham Party’s swift declaration of victory. Despite the disappointing allegations of blatant vote-buying practices, Chaiwat remains hopeful that the people will support the Prachachon Party in the upcoming general election.
According to Thai News Agency, Chaiwat addressed the situation during an interview in Chiang Mai, emphasizing that the Prachachon Party must accept the people’s decision and work harder to achieve future electoral success. Despite not winning the by-election, he remains optimistic about the party’s prospects in the South and the forthcoming general election. The party aims to field the best candidates from the region and nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to the electorate.
Concerns persist regarding the political climate in the South. Media and analysis reports highlight the influence of vote-buying, political power, and state power in the Nakhon Si Thammarat by-election. The phrase “shooting bullets in a blatant, open manner” underscores the perceived disregard for the Election Commission’s authority.
Mr. Rong Boonsuaykwan, a former MP for Nakhon Si Thammarat from the Palang Pracharath Party, further fueled these concerns by commenting on a TV program that “Whoever shoots more powerful bullets wins,” suggesting that the Kla Tham Phasi Party’s stronger influence secured their victory. These developments cast a shadow over the integrity of Southern politics, contradicting the aspirations for a fair electoral process.
Chaiwat reiterated that if the People’s Party fails to secure victory, it cannot place blame on the electorate. Instead, it must demonstrate its value as a representative option, proving to voters that its policies and leadership offer tangible benefits over other choices.
