Bangkok: Chaiya Brahma has officially resigned from the Pheu Thai Party, announcing his decision through a LINE message that confirmed an amicable parting of ways. Prasert Chantruangthong, the party’s secretary-general, acknowledged the resignation and assured that a suitable replacement has been found to run in Constituency 2 of Nong Bua Lamphu Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Prasert Chantruangthong and Mr. Chusak Sirinil, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the Pheu Thai Party, held a press conference to declare their readiness for the upcoming general election on February 8, 2026. The Pheu Thai Party plans to host a significant event on December 25th to introduce candidates for all 400 constituency seats and 100 party-list seats. The party now has all necessary candidates in place to contest the election.
The resignation of Mr. Chaiya Brahma was confirmed to be due to political necessity in Nong Bua Lamphu province, with no personal gains involved, as per the document he sent via LINE. While the Pheu Thai Party was unaware of his future plans or potential new affiliations, Mr. Chaiya expressed gratitude for his tenure with the party. The party highlighted that there were no conflicts during his time as a member and confirmed that they supported him in his various roles.
The Pheu Thai Party is vigilant about potential challenges in the election process. Mr. Chusak expressed concerns regarding massive election spending and warned against the cycle of ‘money politics,’ which might lead to parties seeking personal gains post-election. He urged the Election Commission and the government to ensure a fair and transparent election process.
Furthermore, the party has received reports of potential intimidation or threats against their candidates. In response, the Pheu Thai Party has appealed to the Election Commission and the government to prevent any misuse of power and ensure neutrality. The party is actively preparing to document any instances of intimidation and will present evidence to the appropriate agencies.
Amidst these challenges, the Pheu Thai Party anticipates a competitive election, with both large and small parties engaging intensely. Mr. Chusak emphasized the importance of a fair election and announced plans to establish an anti-fraud center. The party is committed to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and will provide updates on the center’s establishment and operations.
