Chalermchai Dismisses Breakup Rumors with Decha Isara, Awaits Political Decision

Bangkok: Chalermchai Sri-on, former leader of the Democrat Party, has denied rumors of a breakup with Decha Isara Khaothong, MP for Songkhla and acting secretary-general of the party. He stated that he is currently hesitant to support Mark’s return as the Democrat Party leader and plans to make a definitive political decision on October 18, determining whether to continue or end the current situation.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chalermchai and Mr. Decha Isara discussed preparations for the Democrat Party’s extraordinary general meeting to elect a new party leader and executive committee. They emphasized that any remaining obstacles would be resolved smoothly and that the party is operating normally. Chalermchai expressed his hope that the upcoming executive committee election would be decisive, allowing the party to move forward without any special requests.

Chalermchai also clarified that he has not yet spoken with Abhisit Vejjajiva, the former leader of the Democrat Party, as Abhisit is currently on a business trip in China. He confirmed his readiness to appoint anyone determined to serve as the party leader, insisting that there is no bias in the selection process. He reiterated that his relationship with Abhisit is amicable, and both share a commitment to the party’s progress.

Addressing the rumors of strained relations within the party, Chalermchai assured that there is no discord, describing himself as a compromising figure. He dismissed speculation about a potential party switch, emphasizing his commitment to consulting with all party MPs before making any decisions after October 18. Chalermchai stressed the importance of allowing time for careful consideration of his political future, highlighting his dedication to the party’s younger members and his personal values.

When questioned about joining other political parties, Chalermchai noted that he has not made any decisions yet. He emphasized his responsibility towards the Democrat Party and his intention to allow it to advance before considering any personal political moves. He dispelled any notion of conflict with Decha Isara, underlining his aversion to quarrels and commitment to harmonious relations.

Decha Isara also addressed his political future, stating that he would step aside if he became an obstacle to the party’s leadership. He expressed willingness to support the party’s progress if he could contribute positively. Decha Isara reiterated his alignment with Chalermchai, emphasizing that their relationship remains strong and cooperative.
