Nonthaburi: Chalong Riangrang, the former Member of Parliament for Nonthaburi, spent his first night in custody at Nonthaburi Provincial Prison, following his arrest on charges related to the murder of Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenprasert, President of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization, on August 10th. Reports indicate that Riangrang adjusted well to his initial night behind bars, eating without any apparent concern for his ongoing legal case.
According to Thai News Agency, after Riangrang's arrival at the prison, standard procedures were followed to verify his documents and confirm his identity. He was then placed in a COVID-19 quarantine room for a mandatory five-day period. On his first night, he consumed a meal of chicken curry with fresh bamboo shoots, rice, and boiled eggs, identical to the meals provided to other inmates, ensuring no special treatment was given.
A health check conducted revealed that Riangrang had slightly elevated blood pressure, for which he had his regular medication. Prison medical personnel are overseeing his care. Mentally, Riangrang appears largely unconcerned about the murder charges, though he is reportedly slightly anxious about his sleep due to a habit of taking daytime naps, which necessitates the use of sleeping pills at night.
Family visits and meetings with legal counsel will adhere to the Department of Corrections regulations. Relatives listed by Riangrang can request visits after the conclusion of the quarantine period, with visits commencing from August 17th.
