Nonthaburi: The Provincial Police Commander Region 1 has disclosed that the shooting of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization Chairman by Chalong Riangrang is being classified as an "intentional murder."

According to Thai News Agency, the Commander of Provincial Police Region 1 confirmed that Chalong admitted to acting alone in the shooting, citing a longstanding debt of millions of baht as the motive. The commander emphasized that the act is considered "intentional murder."

Pol. Lt. Gen. Wattana Yijin, Commander of Region 1, shared insights after examining the crime scene at the Provincial Administrative Organization office, specifically within the parking lot. Mr. Chalong confessed to the crime, motivated by frustration over the unpaid debt despite repeated repayment attempts over the years. However, police will continue to verify details, acknowledging that the suspect is entitled to his statement.

Officials are actively investigating the scene to collect facts and details to reconstruct the incident. There are suspicions regarding potential premeditation, as evidence from the scene and CCTV footage suggests possible planning. The investigation is ongoing to establish whether the act was premeditated.

The suspect claimed that the driver of Police Colonel Thongchai drew a gun, but this statement remains under scrutiny. Police have reviewed crime scene evidence and CCTV footage, which provides a clear account of the events. If Mr. Chalong suggests self-defense, an extensive investigation will be conducted. Additionally, Mr. Chalong's apology to the family is not deemed a special privilege, and the act is recognized as attempted murder under legal standards.

CCTV evidence confirmed that the driver did not retaliate with a firearm. Police Colonel Thongchai sustained two gunshot wounds to the cheek and one to the neck, while the driver was injured in the wrist.
