Champa Lo Mayor Earns Big with Organic Kaffir Lime Cultivation

Champa Lo: The mayor of Champa Lo Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Ang Thong Province has found success in growing organic kaffir lime leaves, generating over a hundred thousand baht in monthly income. He uses an innovative pest control method by spraying a mixture of coffee and yogurt instead of pesticides, ensuring safety for growers and consumers alike.

According to Thai News Agency, the kaffir lime plantation spans more than 3 rai in Village No. 4, Tambon Champa Lo, Amphoe Mueang, Ang Thong Province, and has been fruitful for over seven years, providing a steady income for its owner. The mayor, Mr. Siwakorn Nirandon, reports that each day, vendors at the Ang Thong market purchase 150 kilograms of leaves at 35 baht per kilogram, yielding a daily income of 5,000-6,000 baht.

Mr. Nirandon, while fulfilling his mayoral duties, remains committed to his roots in agriculture. Farming has been his lifelong pursuit, and after experimenting with various crops, he settled on kaffir lime due to its continuous yield potential. Initially, he faced pest challenges, causing him to abandon the plot. However, his innovative approach to pest control, combining 2 spoons of coffee with a bottle of yogurt and 20 liters of water, proved effective and eliminated the need for chemicals, resulting in toxin-free leaves.

Despite initial skepticism from others about the challenges of cultivating kaffir lime without chemicals, Mr. Nirandon is now a proponent of organic farming and is eager to share his methods with interested individuals. Looking ahead, he plans to dedicate himself fully to farming after his political career, driven by the joy it brings him.
