Pa mok: Villagers are terrified as a section of the Chao Phraya riverbank has collapsed over 100 meters. The collapse has created a gap more than 5 meters deep, following continuous rainfall. Villagers fear their homes will fall into the water and are urging authorities to urgently repair the damage.

According to Thai News Agency, an aerial view of sub-community 1, Pa Mok Subdistrict Municipality, Pa Mok District, Ang Thong Province, shows the continuous collapse of the riverbank along the Chao Phraya River. The soil along the bank has slid and collapsed into the river for a distance of over 100 meters and a depth of over 5 meters. Initial findings suggest the cause is heavy rainfall over several consecutive days, saturating the soil and causing continuous subsidence. This has caused great fear among local residents.

Mr. Surapol Sawangjai, 63, a resident living in the area, said that the collapsed embankment was a flood protection dike built by the Pa Mok Subdistrict Municipality. After several days of continuous rain, the embankment began to gradually collapse. Residents in the area are frightened because 7-8 houses built 20-30 years ago near the collapsed section, which lack foundation piles, could all collapse due to further subsidence. Therefore, they want officials to address the issue promptly.

While officials from the Pa Mok sub-district municipality have inspected the damage, they are urgently coordinating with relevant agencies to find solutions and construct temporary landslide prevention barriers.
