China Records 5.08 Billion Chunyun Trips in First Half of Year

Beijing: China has reported an impressive 5.08 billion "Chunyun" trips in the first half of the year, marking a significant movement of people during this period.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Transport revealed that this figure includes various modes of transportation over the initial 20 days of the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush. Specifically, road travel accounted for 4.76 billion trips, rail travel for 258 million trips, water travel for 19.99 million trips, and air travel for 47.52 million trips.

To address this surge in travel, China Railway Corporation Limited confirmed that it added 2,203 passenger trains on February 22. The railway authority has boosted transport capacity on key routes, enhanced services at stations and on trains, and introduced measures to improve the overall passenger experience.

The 2026 Spring Festival travel season, known as Chunyun, spans 40 days from February 2nd to March 13th. It is often recognized as the largest movement of people globally. Previous forecasts anticipated a record 9.5 billion interregional passenger journeys for this year's Chunyun, reflecting the scale and significance of this annual migration.
