China’s Short Film Market Set for Significant Growth by 2025

Beijing: China's short film market is projected to double in size by 2025, as revealed by the director of the Broadcasting and Television Administration of China. The micro-drama market in the country saw its value double last year compared to 2024, reaching over 100 billion yuan, or approximately 480 billion baht.

According to Thai News Agency, these short dramas, characterized by episodes lasting only 1-3 minutes and designed for mobile viewing, have gained immense popularity in China. They generate substantial revenue through pay-per-episode systems and advertising. Wang Xiaoliang, Director of the Audio-Visual Program Management Division, stated that by 2025, more than 33,000 short dramas are expected to launch, attracting nearly 700 million domestic users. The division is preparing proactive measures and action plans to stimulate consumption in the service sector and support this industry's growth.

Mr. Wang elaborated on the upcoming "Management Measures for the Development of Short Dramas," which aim to promote fair market competition while ensuring content safety. These measures are expected to stimulate innovation and creativity, fostering a healthy and orderly industrial environment. The action plan also aims to strengthen related sectors such as tourism, sports, and agriculture through industry integration to broaden the consumer base.

He emphasized the Chinese government's commitment to integrating technological innovation into the industry. By leveraging modern technologies like artificial intelligence, new service models can be created, unlocking consumer potential. Additionally, there are policies in place to support service exports, including efforts to promote high-quality Chinese short films internationally and penetrate overseas markets.
