Chinese Ambassador Proposes Strategic Approaches to Boost Thai-Chinese Economic Cooperation

Bangkok: The Chinese ambassador proposed three approaches to boosting the Thai-Chinese economy, highlighting AI, industrial supply chains, and joint investment.

According to Thai News Agency, the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand proposed three approaches to enhance economic and trade cooperation between Thailand and China: leveraging China's high-quality development, connecting industrial and supply chains, and building an open cooperation ecosystem. He also pledged to promote cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), advanced technologies, and investment to drive long-term growth for both countries.

Mr. Zhang Jianwei, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Thailand, stated at the Networking Reception within the Thailand-China Cooperation Expo 2026 that the event was an important platform for connecting the government sectors, businesses, chambers of commerce, and trade associations of Thailand and China in order to strengthen economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

Mr. Zhang stated that cooperation between Thailand and China is entering a new phase following the official visit of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to China. The two leaders reached a consensus on upgrading their comprehensive strategic partnership. China is ready to push forward the Thailand-China railway project, the China-Laos-Thailand railway network link, and expand cooperation in new areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), aerospace, and clean energy. Meanwhile, Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to continuously promoting cooperation in trade, investment, advanced technology, and infrastructure.

The Chinese Ambassador stated that the Thailand-China Cooperation Expo 2026 is a crucial mechanism for translating the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries into tangible results, and provides an opportunity to expand cooperation between the business sectors of both nations.

Regarding proposals to enhance economic and trade cooperation between Thailand and China in the future, Mr. Zhang suggested three key approaches:

- Leveraging China's high-quality development, inviting Thai entrepreneurs to take advantage of opportunities in the continuously expanding Chinese market, including the green economy, digital economy, and smart technology, while promoting more high-quality Thai products and services into the Chinese market.

- Linking Thai-Chinese industrial and supply chains through cooperation in innovation, technology, production, and investment. This encourages Chinese businesses to operate under the concept of "Being in Thailand for Thailand," coupled with the development of Thai human resources, job creation, and industrial upgrading. Meanwhile, Thai businesses should leverage China's technological capabilities to enhance their competitiveness and jointly build a stronger regional supply chain.

- Creating an open and inclusive cooperation ecosystem that promotes responsible business practices, sustainable development, and communication across all sectors, in order to build trust and further mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Zhang stated that economic cooperation between Thailand and China still has great potential for expansion, and he believes that the Thailand-China Cooperation Expo will be an important platform for creating new business opportunities, connecting investments, and promoting cooperation in trade, technology, and innovation, leading to sustainable growth for both countries.
