Rayong: A Chinese national, driving a pickup truck, fled in panic after mistaking a siren for a police chase, resulting in serious injury to a motorcyclist traveling against traffic. This incident unfolded near the entrance to Soi Talat Nikhom Phatthana on Highway 13.

According to Thai News Agency, the chaos began when the driver and three other Chinese nationals in the pickup truck saw a rescue vehicle's siren and, lacking driver's licenses, feared it was a highway patrol car. They accelerated into a side street as the rescue vehicle followed. This unexpected pursuit startled Mr. A (pseudonym), a 34-year-old motorcyclist, who was riding against traffic. Attempting to avoid the speeding truck, he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed, sustaining serious head injuries and abrasions.

The pickup truck eventually found itself trapped in a dead-end alley amidst cassava fields. Rescue workers managed to negotiate with the group, who confessed their fear of police due to the lack of licenses. Meanwhile, Mr. A, lying in a pool of blood, was revived by rescuers who administered first aid for over two minutes. Once conscious, he mentioned having been drinking and had no recollection of the events. He was promptly taken to Nikhom Phatthana Hospital for further treatment.

Police officers from Nikhom Phatthana Police Station have since documented the scene and gathered evidence. Investigations are underway involving the Chinese driver, and authorities await Mr. A's recovery for a detailed interview. Charges under traffic laws are expected to follow as the situation unfolds.
