Chonburi:The Governor of Chonburi has officially signed an order to revoke the use of blue motorcycle taxi vests. This decision comes amid concerns over safety and practicality, as expressed by the Prime Minister and other officials.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister stated his disagreement with the change from orange to blue motorcycle taxi vests, highlighting the safety risks associated with the non-reflective, dark color for nighttime driving. He has instructed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and the Governor of Chonburi to address the issue, ensuring the changes meet public needs. Subsequently, the Governor of Chonburi signed an order reversing the change.
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul clarified that he was unaware of the color change decision. During a parliamentary session, he was approached by a Member of Parliament from the People's Party, who raised concerns about the change. The Prime Minister agreed with the MP's evaluation, believing the change was politically motivated. He emphasized that the bright orange vests enhance safety and visibility at night.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that the Bhumjaithai Party's logo color is blue, used since 2010 to protect the monarchy. However, he stated that the issue at hand is not related to party colors but rather safety concerns. He stressed that all colors are used by the party, with green used for a birthday celebration recently.
In response to the safety concerns, the Prime Minister contacted the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and the Governor of Chonburi. He advised them to revert to the original orange vests if the change was not beneficial to the public. The Chonburi Provincial Committee resolved to revoke the prior regulation to reduce costs and alleviate hardships for motorcycle taxi drivers.
The regulation, initially issued on November 20, 2025, had specified the design of vests for public motorcycle taxi drivers in Bang Lamung District. The revocation emphasizes the importance of safety and cost-effectiveness, advocating for the return to standard orange vests. The Chonburi Provincial Committee's decision aims to align with the general regulations of the Department of Land Transport.
