Chawang: Chuan Leekpai, a veteran Thai politician, campaigned in Chawang to support Lawyer Nitishak Meekhuad, popularly known as Lawyer Aeng, while emphasizing his strong stance against vote buying-a practice he believes perpetuates corruption and damages the country.
According to Thai News Agency, Chuan's visit to Khlong Chan Dee Market in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province was aimed at garnering support for the Democrat Party's candidate for Constituency 7. Chuan urged voters to elect Democrat Party members both in constituency and party-list positions to bolster the efforts of party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, regardless of their position in opposition or government.
Chuan highlighted a significant increase in voter turnout in Trang province, attributing it to rising pension payments that have doubled from 500 to 1,000 baht. He cautioned against the 'pawn system,' where vote buying is increasingly prevalent, and reminded people in the South not to trade their future for corrupt practices. Chuan criticized political figures who view politics as a business venture rather than a service to the people, urging voters to support candidates who truly represent public interests.
Lawyer Aeng echoed Chuan's sentiments, asserting that the Democrat Party's return under the leadership of Abhisit and Chuan is what the people have long awaited. He emphasized the party's commitment to honest politics and a clear political ideology that aims to re-establish its influence in the South.
