Bangkok: Chulalongkorn University has announced a collaboration with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to advance research on hydrogen production from renewable energy sources. The partnership is set to explore the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into the development of sustainable hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives.
According to Thai News Agency, the agreement was formalized by Mr. Narin Paowanit, Deputy Governor (Fuel) and Acting Governor of EGAT, and Mr. Supichai Tangjaitrong, Managing Director of Chulalongkorn University Academic Service Center (Chula Unisearch). Professor Phisut Pienmanakul, EGAT Director and Chairman of the EGAT Good Governance and Sustainability Committee, was present to witness the signing.
Mr. Narin emphasized EGAT’s commitment to reducing carbon dioxide emissions in line with the government’s policy on energy transition towards carbon neutrality. The research aims to improve understanding of clean hydrogen production technologies from renewable sources by employing ESG principles to evaluate project efficiency and sustainability. This approach seeks to align with international standards concerning environmental impact, community quality of life, and transparent management. Mr. Narin believes the collaboration will enable EGAT and Thailand to meet energy transition objectives effectively, offering long-term societal benefits.
Mr. Supichai expressed pride in the center’s role in harnessing integrated research knowledge to support clean energy innovation. He highlighted the collaboration’s potential to drive ESG principles concretely, aiming for a sustainable future powered by clean energy. The partnership is also expected to foster knowledge, innovation, and the development of personnel who will play a significant role in the country’s future progress.
