Bangkok: ”Chulaphan” leads a team from the Pheu Thai Party to the Sa Kaeo area to visit evacuees at a shelter. Chulaphan Amornvivat, the leader of the Pheu Thai Party, along with key party members, visited a refugee camp in Sa Kaeo province to provide support to those affected by the ongoing conflict along the Thai-Cambodian border. The visit aimed at offering solace and assessing the needs of over 1,900 displaced individuals, primarily the elderly and young children, who have been residing in the camp since December 8, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, the party leader expressed deep sympathy for the families forced to leave their homes and jobs, leading to a loss of income and difficult living conditions. He urged the caretaker government to expedite relief efforts, highlighting delays that have exacerbated the suffering of those affected.
The delegation, including deputy party leader Sorawong Thianthong and former Deputy Minister of Interior Theerarat Samrejvanich, stressed the necessity of immediate action. Sorawong called for the deployment of psychiatric teams to address the mental health challenges faced by the displaced population, while Theerarat emphasized the importance of appropriate compensation and suggested international cooperation to negotiate a swift resolution to the conflict.
During the visit, the Pheu Thai team planned to engage with local business owners and agencies impacted by the border conflict. Chulaphan highlighted the economic devastation resulting from the unrest, noting the loss of thousands of acres of sugarcane plantations and unharvested rice crops. He criticized the government’s delayed response and urged for swift approval of emergency measures to restore normalcy.
The Pheu Thai Party also met with healthcare personnel, underscoring the importance of mental health support. Chulaphan reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding national sovereignty while ensuring responses remain within international agreements. Sorawong echoed the urgency for relief measures, pointing out the lack of government action over the past two weeks.
Theerarat offered encouragement to the affected individuals and called on the government to ensure fair compensation and seek international dialogue to resolve the conflict. She stressed that prolonged inaction would only increase the suffering of the displaced population, urging immediate intervention to alleviate their plight.
