Hat yai: Chulaphan Amornvivat, the leader of the Pheu Thai Party, has teamed up with party members to address the urgent needs of flood victims in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province. The collaboration aims to revitalize the local economy and provide vital assistance, drawing attention to the government’s administrative challenges and the repercussions of widespread civil servant transfers. In a bid to boost recovery efforts, Ko Kaew Phikunthong has appealed for interest-free soft loans to support the struggling Hat Yai economy.
According to Thai News Agency, the Pheu Thai Party, under the leadership of Mr. Chulaphan, gathered at Trang Airport before heading to Songkhla Province to assess the flood situation and provide moral support to affected residents. The delegation included key party figures such as Ms. Thirat Rattanawanich, Mr. Ko Kaew Phikunthong, and Dr. Sriyada Palimaphun, among others. Their mission was to offer immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation for the flood-impacted areas.
Mr. Chulaphan emphasized the opposition’s readiness to scrutinize government actions, although he stressed that now is not the time for political attacks. He urged the government to address the soaring flight prices and insufficient flight availability at Hat Yai Airport, which are critical for residents trying to support their families.
He further highlighted the Pheu Thai Party’s commitment to helping flood victims, noting previous assistance efforts led by party members such as Mr. Ko Kaew. The party has actively provided supplies and coordinated with local organizations, including the Fishermen’s Association, to aid those stranded in their homes. Additionally, psychological support teams have been deployed to assist disaster victims in need of counseling.
Mr. Chulaphan also criticized recent civil servant transfers, including the Songkhla governor’s reassignment, which occurred shortly before the floods. He indicated that these moves, initiated by Prime Minister Anutin, have had negative implications for public assistance efforts and called for government accountability.
