CIB Intercepts Vehicle Smuggling 14 Myanmar Nationals to Bangkok

Central investigation bureau: Police officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), along with the Highway Police Division, Immigration Police, and other related agencies, intercepted a suspicious vehicle at kilometer 28-29 on the Bang Bua Thong-Suphan Buri Road, inbound lanes, in Lat Bua Luang District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. This followed intelligence indicating the smuggling of illegal foreign workers from northern Thailand towards Bangkok. Officers monitored the situation and spotted a passenger vehicle with an unusually heavy build and heavily tinted windows, prompting them to stop and inspect the vehicle.

According to Thai News Agency, during the search, 14 Myanmar nationals were found without passports or any identification documents. A 23-year-old Myanmar man was the driver and transporter. The driver was charged with aiding, abetting, and transporting illegal immigrants into the Kingdom. The remaining workers were charged with illegal immigration. During questioning, the driver confessed that he was hired via an application to pick up the workers from Phetchabun province and transport them to Bangkok and its surrounding areas for 500 baht per person, and that he had done this several times before.

All the laborers, speaking through an interpreter, stated that they illegally entered the country through natural border crossings in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, paying brokers approximately 16,000 baht each in the hope of finding work in Thailand.

Initially, officers detained the suspects along with the seized evidence and handed them over to investigators at Lat Bua Luang Police Station for legal proceedings. They will also expand the investigation to track down the network responsible for smuggling these illegal migrant workers.
