The commander of the Burapha Task Force visited Nong Ya Kaeo and villagers, confirming that his forces are ready to face the situation and emphasizing that the soldiers will do their utmost to maintain peace.
According to Thai News Agency, late last night, Major General Benjaphon Dechatiwong Na Ayutthaya, Commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, King’s Guard, in his capacity as Commander of the Burapha Force, along with Colonel Chainarong Kasi, Commander of the Aranyaprathet Task Force, Burapha Force, visited Ban Nong Ya Kaeo, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, to inspect the situation and offer encouragement to villagers evacuating to a safe area.
The District Chief of Khok Sung and the Superintendent of Khok Sung Police Station jointly reported the situation in the area to the Commander of the Burapha Force.
Before visiting the evacuated villagers, Major General Benjapol said that while the emergency situation has caused hardship for the villagers, everyone is now safe. He added that if there are any deficiencies, they can immediately notify the Burapha Task Force.
An 80-year-old woman bowed in thanks and wished the soldiers safety. Maj. Gen. Benjapol responded gently, “The soldiers will do their utmost to restore peace.” He admitted he was surprised by the incident, but said everything was proceeding according to protocol. “We are taking full care of the villagers and do not wish to cause any loss to anyone, especially our subordinates who have been working hard for over two months.”
The commander of the Eastern Task Force then gave an interview to the media, confirming that the force is fully prepared to deal with the situation. He stated that he will be closely monitoring the situation. Regarding the gunfire that occurred last evening, Major General Benjapol stated that, based on information appearing in the media and social media, the incident appears unreasonable and that he does not know the Cambodian side’s motives. However, he confirmed that all Thai personnel are safe.
“Today was a lucky day as the bunkers were able to absorb the bullets, and our personnel acted with awareness and in accordance with the rules of engagement.”
When asked about the situation tonight, Maj. Gen. Benjapol concluded by saying, “We cannot assess whether there will be further incidents, but the Burapha Task Force is ready. All parties, including the administrative and local authorities, are cooperating to restore peace as quickly as possible.”
