Bangkok: The Commander of Provincial Police Region 9, Pol. Lt. Gen. Piyawat Chalermsri, and the Governor of Narathiwat, Mr. Boonchuey Homyamyen, have made a site visit to accelerate the investigation into the car bomb attack at Tan Yong Police Station. The attack is suspected to be orchestrated by an insurgent group aiming to destabilize the area. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and reconstruct the perimeter fence.

According to Thai News Agency, CCTV footage captured two assailants executing the attack on the evening of July 21st. A suspect used a Mitsubishi Lancer with a fake license plate while another followed on a motorcycle. After reaching a strategic point, the driver abandoned the car, letting it roll before fleeing on the motorcycle. The pair escaped towards Tak Bai District, passing a mosque.

The improvised explosive device, weighing over 70 kilograms, was detonated remotely, causing minor injuries to Sergeant Major Apisit Anuchat. The subsequent explosion set a fire that consumed the car and a nearby police pickup truck. Fire crews responded swiftly to control the blaze. The explosion shattered windows at the station, scattering debris. Investigations traced the vehicle's illegal transfer from Nakhon Chai Si District. Authorities have identified a suspect and conducted a raid, although the suspect's wife evaded capture.

This morning, Pol. Lt. Gen. Chalermsri and Governor Homyamyen assessed the scene to expedite the investigation. Initial assessments indicate the involvement of insurgents responsible for previous similar attacks in Narathiwat Province. Evidence links the vehicle to outstanding warrants related to past incidents in 2025, including a shooting and bombing at the Suai Ko-lok District Office and a robbery in Yaowarat, Bangkok.
